Hello all,

I have a 2011 F350 6.7 and I just got a message on the screen saying "check coolant additive". Looked in the owners manual, it doesnt say what to do. If anyone has experienced this pleae let me know.

Thank you in advance!

How many miles? Around 13K?

Stop by your dealership and let them run a quick test on your coolant to make sure it is up to spec. I don't recall seeing anyone post that their coolant was out of spec at this mileage.

Just get the test strips from the dealer. If need be you can use the additive from them also. No biggie.

It isn't an issue, it is a maintainance reminder, as in 'change the oil'. Diesels coolant unchecked can lead to cavitation and electrolysis damage which IS an issue and is worth reading up on. Diesels are tough engines, and have unique maintainance needs peculiar to the diesel which leads to what you don't know can really hurt your wallet. Ford is trying to preempt this with reminders such as this. Your coolant will be checked with a color coded strip which as time progresses will eventually lead to an additive being needed to prevent damage to your high dollar mac daddy motor!!

20,000 miles and my truck hasn't popped that message. Just popped the fuel filter change message. Gonna have them check both.

I ran the factory coolant in my dodge for 200k miles and when I had to have a tank on the radiator replaced the guy said it was the cleanest he's ever seen. I wouldn't fret to much about it.
