Defective "waste gate solinoid"
So I noticed a while back, a few seconds after I turn my truck off I get a LOUD buzz coming from the engine bay which gradually tappers off into a faint buzz before going away.
Took it to Ford and apparently Ford Motor Co HAS heard of the issue and is working on a resolve. But for now, nothing they can do. They were supposed to get back to me by now, but haven't. I have now noticed a faint buzz while the motor is running also. FYI the truck is bone stock as far as performance mods go. No intake, tuner, or DPF delete. They say it's not harmful and not to worry in the mean time. Anyone else get this? |

are you sure its the wastegate solenoid? becuase mine is disconected and i have that noise because i believe its the VCV (volume control valve) . that 29000 psi has to go somewhere when you shut it off

Have you had any sputtering while driving under light consistent load? I just had my turbo replaced (under warranty thankfully) and when the service manager heard the problem during a test ride, he told me it was the waste gate as well. He also told me there was no problem driving the vehicle. I continued to drive the vehicle for about a week while he consulted Ford Engineers. Even after all the directions from the guru's they still kept my truck for 18 days once I took it in for what they told me would be a 2 day fix. 1st they tried a computer reprogram, 2nd they cleaned the EGR, 3rd they cleaned the Mass Air Flow Sensor, finally they replaced the turbo. The only reason they are telling you to keep the truck is to avoid having to pay for you to have a rental car. Also they only have 30 days to fix it under the Lemon Law, so they don't want it sitting around the shop while they scratch their heads.

No sputtering while driving (or ever) at all. A turbo itself would not buzz if something was wrong with it. I doubt they are telling me to keep my truck due to wanting to avoid paying for a rental. I have had my truck in for other warranty work and they have given me a rental without a problem. Also, they said they had to wait on Ford to tell them what to do.
Not only did they give me a rental, but I could not make it in the day it was finished and asked if I could keep it another day. They had no issues with it. Definitely not just being cheap. |
