Excessive Regens & DEF consumption
I just wanted to share an experience with all. I have a 2011 F-250 with about 2300 miles on now. Since purchased I have had a regen about every 200 miles. I thought it was a little excessive compared to a friend with the same truck. But it was confirmed this weekend when I got a Low DEF warning. The message read "800 miles remaining". I knew something was wrong at that point because the owners manual estimates DEF range for my gear ratio at about 7500 miles with average towing and I haven't towed anything yet. The dealership verified the DEF level at 66% remaining (not low). They also noted that Ford had issued a service bulletin for this exact discrepancy and to troubleshoot/repair, the mechanic should re-flash/reprogram the computer. They then test drove my truck for about 40 miles with no repeat of code or regen. Hope this a solid fix. Any other experience on this topic. Thanks.

my truck has 850 miles and seems to regen every few hundred miles also, but are you sure the tank was topped off when you bought it or did you do it yourself. i checked mine the day after i bought it and it took over a gal.

200 miles between regens is the norm. Pulling a load it will actually regen less. And I think the avg def usage is 1k miles per gallon. Hope they got your truck fixed.

Been driving for a couple of days since the repair and the computer flash has made a tremendous difference in how the truck shifts. Hopefully it actually fixed the DEF fluid level problem. But the bottom line on that problem is that there was a clear indication problem and NOT a DEF consumption problem. With about 33% of the fluid consumed in 2500 miles, it puts it on mark with my usage and gear ratio (according to the manual). On to the next chapter.
