rattling at idle

hello,

got an 04' 6.0L with 129,000 on her. question is when the truck is sitting and idling it makes a rattle/clatter noise. Almost sounds like it is coming from the fan/fan clutch. Have had ford look at it and they said everything is good to go and couldn't explain it. When the truck goes into high idle, it immediatly goes away.

Thoughts or experience, thanks.

Did you ever find the problem? I had the same rattle. Its the little actuator piece that rides on the front of the clutch to lock it when the engine gets hot. Took me about 5 minutes to find it. Just have the remove the upper shroud to see it.

yes,

hard to explain without a picture but here we go:

if you open the hood and look to the right on the radiator shroud, you'll see a black plastic plug. Follow that down to the fan shaft. There you will find an aluminum collar around the shaft, that is what is rattling on mine. Never bothered to fix it cause I am sure a new on will do the same problem.

I found it when I was replacing the oil cooler and radiator on my truck like 1 year ago.
