WTB brushed aluminum mirror caps for Platinum

Does anyone know if satin chrome mirror caps are available that match the brushed look of the grill on my '14 Platinum? The polished chrome caps just don't look right...

I'm not sure if brushed aluminum would be a match either. I've heard Ford for call it a "satin" chrome grille before. It looks like a matte chrome to me, if there is such a thing. You can probably get a Putco mirror cover and find some vinyl wrap that'll match the grille.

I had my chrome grill off the other day and had to rough up where the new emblem bonded

scotch bright sure made the chrome look like brushed nickle pretty fast

I know of only a couple companies that make aftermarket mirror covers and they usually come in a mirror-like chrome finish. Vinyl wrap comes in hundreds, if not thousands, of finishes and you will probably be able to find the right one to match the grille. Vinyl wrap won't stick to textured plastics, so you will only be able to wrap the top part of the factory mirror.

Thanks for the input guys. Yeah, Ford calls the grill satin chrome, and ultimately that is the finish I'm trying to attain for the polished chrome on the mirror caps, as well as the door handles and tail gate handle.

I have found quite a few sources and methods on the interweb taking polished chrome, hitting it with a Scotchbright pad in producing the satin chrome. My only concern with that method would be the consistency. Don't want to f-up my 2 month old truck! But with that method - the price is right; although, mistakes could be costly.

Maybe I'll get the juevos to do this myself, and knock out a write-up w/pics.

I would not recommend doing that. I think it will look horrible. The platinum grills look more like brushed stainless as it has a sightly gray tint to it where scratching up chrome is not going to have that gray tint IMO.

Thanks for the comment Strokinpower. You might be on to something. Just did a quick search for car wrap shops, and there's several within a couple of miles of me. So I think I'll try and go that route. The cost should be minimal, and the attempt is not irreversible.

I'll check it out this week, and if the wrap works out, I'll be sure to post some pics. I would guess that there are possibly other Platinum owners out there pursuing the same concept.

Try spraying matte clear plastidip over it, there was a guy that did that to his badges on his f150 and it appeared to match the finish of the platinum grille very nice.
