What Type of Winch?
Hello my SD Brothers!
Don't know if I'll ever use it, but what type of Winch is recommended for my F350 and why? Thanks! |

I believe you need 12000-15000lb winch or larger. Reason being, I think general winch rules say minimum 1.5 times the weight of the vehicle. Warn would be the way to go, I think they are king of the winches....Just my opinion though.

Pay a LOT extra for the name when there are other cheaper good quality winches out there.

Warn is the only winch I'd ever buy. Buy it once - lifetime warranty - made in USA (Oregon) - and has great resale value & large resale market if you ever decide to sell it. It's like buying a Leupold scope for your rifle.

X2! Yes you can buy a cheaper winch but if you are going to use it then get a Warn winch. I have the 15k on my 2012 f 350. I have had the winch for 5 years and swap it to my new trucks. I also have a Warn 8k on my crawler and have had that winch for 10 years and it still works great with an extreme amount of use.
As for the cheap winches, the motors are very inefficient and draw a lot more power than the better brands. They are made in China=garbage. The warn 12k winch is not efficient either that is why I went with the 15k. When I get my truck back from the dealership, I will post a picture. I used the Warn hidden mount kit. It is super beefy and looks pretty good considering that it pushes the bumper out 6". |

My last 3 trucks have had the larger of the two Warn Powerplants. The air compressor is used a lot more than the winch.
