Recon Lighting, a company and product review.

Hey all. I just wanted to do a quick write up about a few lighting products I recently purchased for my 2011 F250. I purchased these from Recon, and so far have had pretty good luck with them.

First are the Smoked Turn signals. These were around $100, and sure to dress up the truck by removing the old amber ones, and replacing with some clean smoked ones.

The Turn signals are close to being the easiest things to install. I would say the only easier thing were the tail lights. There is a small tab in the bottom left corner of the UPPER mirror. (drivers side, lower right of passenger) If you look in the gap you will see the tab, push that in and the stock signals push right out, simply unhook where the bulbs of the old signals plug in, and plug those into the LEDs of the recons and your set.

Literally a 3 minute install. It was easier than installing the window visor molding. These signals also work great. Unlike the stock lights that just light up the whole light, the recons actually have almost 2 light bars, one acts as a running light, and the other flashes per unlock/lock and signals. Great product, easy install, looks fantastic.

I have also installed the Recon Tail Lights. These are a little more expensive, about $250/$299 if I remember correctly. They were also a very easy install. The only problem I had was when removing the OEM tail light. There are two screws inside the tailgate that remove quite easily, and then you have to work at getting a metal anchor point out of a rubber grommet. I was able to get them off by putting a paper towel between the truck and light and lightly prying it out, this would have worked alot better with a regular towel because I put a small nick in the paint because the paper towel got a small cut in it. Not a problem it was teeny-tiny and I did a small dot of touch up and it was good. (Kids, this is what happens when you have a new toy and rush to install it.. Stop... Breath... use the right tool LOL.) After that the install was a breeze. Same as the turn signals, jsut swap the wires and your good. It uses your factory reverse light, but you can add Recons LEDs to reverse light if you want. I would also add a dab of threadlocker, I noticed the screws started to work themselves loose a little bit after a week or so.

Looks great!

I have also installed a Recon Tailgate light bar. It is the White lightning and cost about $80. I like the idea of it, but had a few issues. I hardwired it to the tail lights, and all seemed to work fine except that the running lights only worked on half the bar, I removed the connections, made sure everything was correct, and re did it, now none of the running lights work. It also had 2 blown LEDs. I think this may have just been a "dud". I contacted the guys at Recon, and after having some issues getting through to them via their website, I emailed them directly and there is a new bar in the mail as we speak. I have a good friend who pulled one of these bars off an older truck, put it on his, and it has been working fine for 3 years. So i think it may have just been I drew a short straw when I ordered.

As I said, I originally had some issues getting in touch with anyone via their website comment form, but once I emailed them directly, I got a reply in 10 minutes. I will also add that that was 4 hours after they were closed, and I still got an email that night. I also spoke to someone on the phone, who was still there, still working and answering phones an hour after the shop closed on another night. They sent out a replacement bar without any issues, and seem to be really good guys.

I will update this post as time goes by. I plan on getting a few other of their products, including BIG RING ICE side running lights, as well as Cab Lights, and possibly strobes. I will also note how the Tailgate bar turns out.

Here is a short video of the lights in action. I will do a video review later, but this will give you a good idea of how they look and work.

And a pic of the truck for good measure.

*I do not work for, or have any connection with Recon. I am simply doing a review of their product for others to see when attempting to make an informed decision.

I also want to relay the very positive experience i have had with Recon.
When I ordered a part for a 2008 in error for my 2012, they even called me long distance to Canada to verify if I wanted all these 2012 parts, and only 1 2008 part.
I purchased their headlights, smoked taillights, tailgate line of fire, smoked mirror lights, big rig ice lights, smoked 3 tail lamp, all white LEDs for the interor, frt 1/4 led replacements, and the superduty door sil plates.
Everything arrived USPS, and was billed individually for me on their own accord for each package, which totalled over the $1600 limit in sum, that Revenue Canada allows for duty free.
In essence, they saved me brokerage, and shipped fast, and were accurrate, friendly and saved me from my own error!

Excellent service and products IMO.
I thought I better support such a good company for our industry.
Its important to continue to support companies like this so they stay in business for us all to enjoy.

Thks Recon
Lyle
