I've used them. They work great in all climates. Heavy slush / ice sometimes sticks them up a bit but a light kick to loosen the ice and they are good to go

I have an oem set on an mercury and they do freeze and snow gets wedged in. Ice will pack up and not allow them to extend. I just turn them off in the winter, they just stay down all the time.

Have a look at these. The bad thing about the AMP style is that they don't protect your paint. And if your going with larger tires these help a lot. Plus there great for the parking lots.

^I like those! Where are they from, and how much were they if ya dont mind? I really don't like the factory steps either, they are gaudy looking, but serve a purpose! Easier entry, and I can't imagine how much dirter my truck would be without them running aftermarket wheels/tires!!
