Switched reverse lights??

When I have the 5th wheel hooked up and I back it in at night, the reverse lights reflect off the front of the trailer so bad that I simply can not see out the mirrors. So, I thought that there must be a way to splice into the wiring and put a switch on them (preferably one of the factory switches). That way I can just turn them off when towing/backing.

Has anyone done this, or know how to do it?
Or is it more trouble than it's worth?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

It seems like you should be able to interupt the power going to the lights with an on/off switch,located anywhere you choose

This should not be a problem just intercept the reverse light source wire in the cab and attach to a switch of your choosing.

Source Wire location: (double check before cutting please)
In the passenger side kick panel the BCM/Fuse Box
Look for a Blue/White wire in the 32 pin plug
It will be pin number 13 and will have + polarity

You wont be able to use an upfitter switch unless you want to permanently have your reverse lights only come on with the switch. Easiest way to do it would be to put a switch to interrupt your ground for the reverse lights.

I have done some checking and now see the upfitters are a 12v source not just a switch I was unaware and stand corrected here. Thank you for the information.

Original message "I do not have the upfitters in my truck but was assuming they are just a standard single pole single throw. Leaving the switch in the closed position (or on) at all times the reverse lights would work and if they are not needed flip the switch into the open position and they would be off. I could be missing something here since I do not have the uplifters but I don't see how that would not work."
