Upgrade Stereo

Guys,

I bought one of the 1st 2011s and chose not to look for the upgraded DVD and Navigation system. I have the single CD with the amp and sub behind the seat. Has anyone had any good luck upgrading to a DVD / Nav system and possible keeping the steering controls? I know is it possible with adapters (PIE) but I also here some people say they never get things working perfect. Factory is not an option due to the cost.

How is that 8" Alpine? Is it worth the dough?

Yesterday I just installed a stock navi sync and steering controls all work as well as an adapter for the back up camera to display on my head unit and not the mirror any more.

dodge_dbag,

Could you post part numbers and where you purchased the parts required to perform the upgrade? Would like to upgrade my system too...

The radio was given to me from a friend.

And all the install parts I got from a this place called OEM auto parts co I will post a link from there website on the install kit I bought. The only 2 ford part numbers in the kit were for the steering wheel switch (BC3Z-9C888-BA) and the antenna splitter (9T4Z-10E928-A)

Had a pioneer navi/head unit in my 2008 that worked flawlessly with the PIE adapter. Factory nav is way overpriced and nowhere near as customizable as aftermarket units. The sound is also better quality on an aftermarket unit.

If you add a Alpine HU is the wiring plug and play to keep the stock wheel controls?
