Shorter Antenna

Noobee who just got a 12 F250 SRW Lariat Crew 4x4 and am really liking this truck. But when I pull it into the garage, the stock FM antenna drags along the facia in front and then the garage door itself. (Yeah the door is all the way and out of the way).

Anyone familiar with a shorter replacement antenna that will still work well?

Thanks ahead of time.

I have this one and love it. Works very well. Just as good as the oem one.

Thanks

Thanks. I looked at a couple on eBay but when I looked a little deeper I would find reviews where there were comments like "I don't know how you think this fits a 2011 250. Not a chance." Figured I would ask someone who had the 'Been there. Done that' t-shirt.

Another option that will work is to just cut the stock one down. (Assuming it is a metal "whip" type. I have a friend that did this and really didn't notice a difference in his reception. He cut it down to maybe 6 inches and ground it to a point. (Don't ask me why) but like I said it works fine. Just a possible cheap (free) alternative to buying a new antenna.

I had one of those stubby antennas on my Raptor, and ordered another one for my new F250 without first looking at how it's mounted on this truck.

Of course, when I got it, I quickly found out that it isn't an easy "unscrew the original, screw the new one on" type replacement.

So... I got into the Service Manual, and looked up the procedure for how to remove/replace the antenna. To make a long story short... It appears it can be done, but involves something like 16 steps, and the removal of numerous panels of the truck to get to it.

As such, I haven't installed mine... at least, not yet. I just ant see going thru all that hassle just for a purely cosmetic change. Maybe one day when I'm tinkering around with something else, and have those panels off, I'll install it. But not now.

I'd keep the OEM antenna. It is a great height/clearance identifier. I'd rather deal with the pinging of pipes and whatever else is in an underground parkade than rip my roof off. Not sure where everyone parks though but I do go into a lot of parkades/parking garages and other height restricted above ground parking lots. Those ones, I just hop the curb.

I cut mine down and put a new tip on it. it looks far better than any aftermarket piece and thives dont want to steel it. Only downside is the HD radio kicks in and out more often with the short one.

I'm glad someone posted this. I didn't know there were other options. I tie mine down a little to the mirror just to bow it a little to give me some clearance. Its a pain after a while getting in and out just to do that. On my 2006 I had I always un screwed it. With this knave however can't do that
