Question Whine Sound Every Minute Or So

The title pretty much says it all, but when the engine is off there's a short whine sound that comes from under the truck about once every minute. It lasts about a half second and sounds kind of like the fuel pump.

Is this normal?

No, this is when the engine is off. Keys out sitting at the curb.

I was looking under the truck for damage because I hit a piece of steel on the highway that fell off some jack wagon's truck.

No damage except it pulled the wires out of the deutsch plug that lights my passenger side running board, but that's when I heard the whine.

My 2012 does that also. It sounds like a pump either fuel or urea, at least hat is what I have assumed. Great question that I would like an answer to.

The guy at Ford told me when I bought a jug of DEF, that I should rinse out the nozzle when I'm done as the fluid will crystallize. I wonder if the sound isn't some type of circulatory pump for the DEF?

It sounds like it could be the Waste gate control solenoid. It makes a motor type sound 30-60 sec. after key off. Have the dealers tech call the Ford hotline. I told my dealer what it was the tech was like I'll be the judge here. He was on hold with the hotline when he came out to hear the noise. He did not know but I did and a few minutes later the hotline tech comes on and the dealer tech hardly got his words out and was told to replace the Waste gate control solenoid. Its a quick fix.

My best bet would be the DEF pump.

Is it a whine or does it sound more like a computer beep???

It's a whine. I know it's a little cross-culture, but if you've ever heard the fuel pump on a modern Harley right before you start it, it sounds just like that, but about half as loud.
