USB file format for SYNC
I had to learn this after some research and trial and error. Sync wont recognize NTFS, you must format devices to Fat 32. The issue you run into is any os newer than win 2k wont allow you to format external storage units in anything other than NTFS. The work around is to download a freeware app that does nothing but this. it was called Swissknife. After doing this the copy time was less than a 10th and Sync now works.
I now have an under dash (not hanging off the front) 64GB usb flash drive. Very nice results. |

Yep, Fat 32 is the way to go. I bought the 64Gb flash drive on Woot.com for $35. So far it works far better than my 64 GB ipod which kept having to be rebooted when using it with sync.

I guess I'm going to ask this question, but with a state of the art infotainment system, you would think they would have set it up to run on any file system instead of something that is 10 years old... Okay not sure about that last statement but you get the point.

oddly NTFS is "older" than FAT32

In a strange way it makes sense. There is no need for a secured format when used with sync. It reminds me of the Y2K short sited thinking. At the time sync was developed for our trucks 32gb USB flash drives was huge and cost prohibitive. I remember in 2005 buying 1 Gb for about $30. IN the end I am just happy there is a work around and that i was able to post it out here for others. Once you get it working it is pretty nice.
