Using a Jump Drive with Factory Nav
I bought a truck
in Colorado and will be going to pick it up new years eve day and I want to have a good selection of music on the drive back to IL.Is there anything special I have to do do get a jump drive to work with the 2011 Nav/sync system? I tired just dragging a few songs from I tunes to my jump drive and tried it out in my grandpas 2011 f150 w/ nav and it couldnt play the "protected" files or something like that. I would rather use my 8gig jump drive over my 2gig i pod so what do I need to do to make this work? Thanks, -Matt |

I'm not sure but it could be the file format. It may have to be MP3 format instead of MP4 or AAC, whatever iTunes uses. I'll see if I can get it to work in mine later and try to let you know.

I just copied and pasted a handful of songs onto my jump drive and plugged it into the usb port in my truck. Switched it to SYNC and gave it the USB voice command and they all played just fine.
Maybe it has something to do with the songs themselves. Mine were all songs I purchased from iTunes. If anything were protected I'm sure they would be. EDIT: My truck DOES NOT have Nav. |

The drive has to be formated to FAT or FAT32. Now days with larger drives a lot of them come formated to NTFS which will not work with a flash drive in the truck.

I deleted everything off the drive and checked the format and it was FAT32 and reloaded some songs on it. Put it in and used the voice comands and everything worked just fine
