LED Bed Lights - what power source?
Hey guys:
I received a free set of PlasmaGlow LED bed lights when I bought my bed cover, and would like to get them set up. I figured out how to run the wires all the way through, into the cab and into the upfitter switch, but the problem there is the key has to be on for it to generate power. I'd like to tap into maybe the brake light somehow or something else, where I can use a little switch they provide. That way I can just turn it off and on right from the bed. Anyone else done something similar? Any ideas? Thanx guys.... Larry C |

There is a positive sign on the trailer light plug, you can try it not sure if it would have enough voltage to run them. You could always run a trial wire to it before you hard wire.

take it off the trailer wiring harness, put a micro pressure switch in the endgate so when you open the gate they turn on.
you can even feed them off of the licence plate lights and if i remember correctly those led kits only draw 1.5 amps at 14 V DC Last edited by matty21; 01-07-2011 at 07:00 PM. |

Let us know what you end up doing because I have been looking at these lights. I like the pressure switch idea.

Mike,
What type of door jam switch did you use and where did you mount it? Can you post a picture of the switch. |

This is cake. You can run the HOT + to any type of Powered item u have in or out of the truck that only works when Key is ON. Then use a Switch like they have said^ (Like wats in the door jams) and wire it up, youll have to put a hole in the Sill of the gate for it to work. Then ground it, RUn the lights under the Railsides (screw or Double/sided tape them in) and test them, u should be good to go
