What make rear axle do I have

Been trying to find out.

I have a 2012 PSD F350 Dually Crew Cab Lariat. It is pretty much towing a 17k fifth wheel or its parked.

Was just in for 45k Service (severe duty) and the Ford Diesel Supplement says to change the Transfer fluid and rear end fluid if I have a Dana rear axle.

I could not find any info on the rear end that says what make axle it is. The drive shaft says Dana/Spicer but that is it.

So I go to the dealer today and he says it's not a Dana so it does not need a fluid change. So I ask "what make is it? And he couldn't definitively answer me. (I have an inquiring mind) My understanding on my year and model is that its supposed to be either Dana or Sterling and both of them should say it?

Long story short he goes online to Ford with my VIN and all he could come up with was that I have a 3.73 rear…. Duh… I know that. Who makes it?

So they are trying a different route to find out for me - said it might take a few days to get back to me… not confident in that.

I spent hours this weekend trying to find out info to determine what it is but no luck.

Anybody out there have any suggestions? (Don't say look for a new mechanic… I am)

dually would be a DANA unless I missed something that just changed
SRW would be a Stearling

your manual says Dana 80 for a DRW 350 and that has been the standard for years

go look at the dif cover and use the tag or bolt pattern to prove to yourself what it is

there are no tags or name stamped on it. There was a part number so the tech is going to ford with that.

The driveshaft is a dana so it goes to figure….

Rear differential is Dana 80 on the dually, Sterling 10.5 on the SRW. Dana will have a fill plug in the cover. Run far away from that tech! Don't allow him to check tire pressures.

Yep… we debated it yesterday. I said I was pretty positive it was a Dana.. he said no.

Today they called and said it was a Dana.. WTF?

I have to constantly get info from this forum to explain to the techs. I know that there are some good Ford Diesel Techs out there… I just can't seem to find them.
