Your EGR is used to put exhaust back into the intake to do a more complete burn on the exhaust it only takes some of the exhaust not all of it, and when your romping on it with you might be forcing the valve open and when putting around it might not be opening all the way, might be gunked up with soot. Thats all I can think of, I have only worked on gas engines and am looking at getting a f-350 to tow my race truck.
