6.4, Welding up EGR Cooler?

My question is, has anyone successfully welded freeze plugs or something similar into the EGR coolers of a 6.4. I know many guys have done it with EGR coolers on the 6.0s. Thought about just removing them completely but I would kinda like to keep the factory look under the hood and not spend the $200 bones on a delete kit that's basically just a couple pieces of metal plate. I got a perfectly good welder sitting in the shop and thought it would be alot cheaper to just weld them up, but kinda looking for someone that might have done it already to get a good idea. I might just go ahead and do it blind if no one eelse has done it or there's enough interest in a write-up.
Thanks!
