truck issues and dealer issues

Hi guys, i just bought an 08 6.4. I sold my 6.0 thinking i was getting a better truck... The 2nd day I'm driving it it shut down. Its only got 53,000 miles so it's covered on the powertrain they call and tell me it's the hpfp! they said it was done 7 months ago but they didn't change the rails and injectors ? Now they tell me if there is rust it will totally void the warranty. So i call the dealer i bought it from n they say sorry it's a y used car your out of luck! I never got a water in fuel light or anything. Any ideas n is there anythingi can go back on the dealer i bought it from? Also what's the odds it will be covered under warranty? i can't afford 9 g for a totally new fuel system! N should i ditch the truck as soon as it's fixed?

Thanks

A dealer has to prove the rust caused a problem such as the hpfp problem.

I might be able to explain this a little better since i am not on my cell and i'm on my laptop.
So what has happened is I drove the truck 2 days (113 miles) and it quit going down the high, i had it towed to my ford garage. They pulled it in and found 0 PSI at the HPFP. Now they then explained that the truck had a HPFP installed less then 8 months ago, and only 17,000 MI. Also he said that ford makes the dealers replace the fuel rails and injectors and some other parts as well. The previous Dealer only did the HPFP? now they said they wanted me to confirm that I would pay $1200.00 for them to pull the cab and check the pump for debris. if none was found then ford will cover it if some is found i'm screwed is basicly what they said. i would only be out the 1,200 if it's not covered.
So my questions are
1. why would 2 HPFP go out within a year.
2. Why would the other dealer not replace the parts that ford directly tells them to replace and only do the pump.
3. What do think the odds are this thing will be covered under warranty?
4. Would you guys sell the truck as soon as i get it fixed. I love the truck but i don't understand why it's chewing up HPFP?

Thanks

I'm going through the same ordeal right now. Bought my truck used with 40k miles on it a month and a half ago and I put on a few hundred miles and it wouldnt start... Been at the Ford garage for a week now still not done. They are saying it will be about 4800 to get it fixed, HPFP. With all of these HPFP failures you would THINK that Ford would try to help fix these issues....

I no i really think they should be taking responsibility. My dads toyota had 165,000 Miles and they paid for a new frame to be put under it cause of rust! i don't see any of the big 3 standing behind there trucks like that.
i just don't know what i should do, a guy told me if there is contamination that my insurance would cover it so that is a plus.
any advice on what i need to be doing or documenting would be great.
The cabs coming off tomorrow and so is the pump so i'll know how much and who is paying for everything by monday night.

Thanks,

In Colorado you have something like 2 weeks that you can change your mind and bring it back. You have to pay mileage but you might check that out if they try to stiff you.

We're both dealers Ford Dealers? I'm assuming they are since the prior service records are still available. If so, call Ford customer service (not the dealer) and explain to them what the dealers are doing to you. The problem should get resolved quickly.

I have and 08' HPFPis bad from rust/contaminated fuel system. @ 64,000 . I am currently fileing a consumer law case against the dealer... Ford corp. will tell you pack sand. I also have extra oil in the crank case, and the hpfp cover chaffing wire syndrome.
according to Diesal society 6.4 power stroke have a big problem with water in fuel and if you don't crawl under the truck every thrirty days and drain it at the low pressure fuel pump, it could lead to catastopic engine failure. something about the acumulation bowl (@ fuel water separator)getting plugged with white paste, water or condensate doesn't drain and gets passed to the tank via the low pressure line. my story is a little different in that they filled it up with Gasoline and it died the next day ,this was when I purchased it at 6422 miles on it. another little tip is change the oil every 5,000 not 10,000. everyone is having these same problems with the 6.4 Ford should pay and pay big!!! this engine is a piece of crap ford knows it that why they only installed it in 08-10 trucks. I need an expert witness on this ford navistar 6.4 if anyone can help me. may help all ford 6.4 PS owners. If we got enough "pissed off" truck owners to join in and petition .

It will never happen^^^. They tried the same thing with the 6.0l and class action law suit. This engine is one of the best engines out there if it is deleted and maintained properly. Ford stopped putting this engine in the 6.4 due to a falling out with navistar. The reason people think the 6.4 is junk is cause they drive and maintain it like a 7.3. If that's the case hope you have a thick wallet.
