6.4 Limp mode -- no codes

Hi Guys,

I have a 2008 stock F250 -6.4L. 6 months ago, for the first time ever, the "drain water from fuel" light came on. I read the manual and attempted to open the valve and drain the water off. Well, I broke the little plastic handle off in the open position. On the way home that night, I broke down on the interstate. Presumably because the engine sucked air, but i had it towed in. I manually closed the valve after I took the cover off, but I never replaced it. Since then, when I get low fuel, it has died on me a few times and I have had to prime it and give it 5 gallons of fuel to get me back going. Quite the pain. I learned not to run it too low, but now I seem to have a different problem. It has gone into limp mode a few times lately usually towards the lower end of a tank. This weekend it did it at 60 miles til empty and today at 90. I can always kill the truck and restart it and run for a while with no limp, but it usually goes back in until I fill it up.

No check engine light, no codes. No mods.

Do you think it has to do with the drain still slightly open or are their bigger problems brewing.

Thanks in advance!
