THE TICK!!!!

Does anyone have an audio clip of it? Does it sound like an exhaust leak? I'm not saying it is one, but im curious if that is a good way to describe the sound.

If you are talking about the cackle, then yes. I actually got it from this forum. I don't know if it will let me post it up, if it doesn't, PM me your email and I will email it to you.

no, not the cackle. The 08's(alot of them) are expierencing a tick from the motor. some say it sounds like a lifter, some valve tick, others can't explain it. But im curious if anyone has a sound bite, some i can compare it to the noise my truck is making.

Dang it, I did it again. For some reason I always forget to look at the top of the page and see which sub-forum I am in. (I often just use the home page to look at recent threads) My apologies. Here's another bump for ya.

Not sure if this is the tick your talking about. I had my oil changed and the next day I had a tick. Took it to the dealer and they couldn't find anything. Service writer found TSB 08-19-5. Stating that after 3000-5000 miles or after an oil change this sound may become more evident. Service manager said sounds like bad lifter, but the TSB says not to do anything. Normal the tech he didn't think it should be normal. So know its a wait and see what happens. Truck has 3600 miles on it. Got a coupon for 70 bucks off oil change but would have expired before 5000 miles. Think maybe I should've waited.

My buddies 08 has had the tick since it was new and now has 70k miles on it with no problems, it kinda sounds like valve tick to me.. But my dads 09 has never made the ticking noise.

You have to be very careful about this. Next thing you know every problem will be diagnosed as this harmless ticking sound.

If you have a knock like a rod knocking or lifter noise, etc. it generally can be associated with the speed of the engine. Higher idle tapping noise is more rapid. Slower rpm the noise slows down. That is not what this noise is like. It's a random tick that does not coincide with engine speed. It may go away with increased engine speed but nothing like a noisy injector or lifter.

It seems now that this noise is turning into a free ticket to not fixing anything.
