Power steering pump??

Hey Guys,

My steering has been getting pretty loose lately. It isn't a crazy wander, it just takes a bit for the truck to respond after I make an input at the wheel. I thought it could be the ball joints even though they are only two years old. Checked them and the tie rod ends and they are all tight. While I was down there I noticed a lot of leaking from the power steering pump. It is not hard to turn the wheel at a stand still but my braking is not as good as it can be and the pads and rotors are in good condition.

Could the leaking pump give me the loose steering and making the hydro assist brakes a little soft? If I pump them while in park 5 or 6 times they stiffen back up for the rest of the trip.

Thanks

Solved all of my problems with an easy solution. It was time to change out my steering dampers. When I put the Bilsteins on they were a lot longer than the sky jackers that were on there. I had to move the brackets out on the tie rod so they could properly expand and retract. I also noticed the center bracket was resting on the tie rod causing the slow steering response. I guess the sky jackers were positioned wrong too because after i relocated the brackets my brakes were instantly hard and my turning radius was amazing. The power steering also worked better. I think the leaky steering box is from the steering having to work harder to fight that damper. It must have also affected the hydro boost. The box does have a leak so I will have to fix the seals but I'm glad to have fixed a few problems without even knowing I was fixing them.
