I understand what you are saying and I agree. This can be normal if all the 6.4's are getting fuel in the oil. But if it is on only certain amount of them there is a problem. What is Ford actually saying , and why leave the dipstick out to check the oil. How about some verification ??

Also would like some help for what Ford says is the proper way to check the oil level. I don't understand why they say to not put the dipstick in all the way. All that is doing is saying it is OK to have the oil about 3/4 overfull due to fuel in the oil.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I am a Ford Master Certified Diesel Tech, there is a much bigger situation to your problems. The way it works is that Ford only pays us so much to diag a problem. Yes, using the IDS(scan tool) is the proper procedure to check for leaks. The problem being is that if it passes that test, even though you still have a problem, it is very hard to go further into the problem and get paid for it. The customer is not the only loser. I have had many hours into issues like this and only been paid for a small portion of my time. It is very hard to tell a tech to go furhter into a problem and not guarantee that he will get paid for it. Having said that if you have a legitimate problem like that you need to be looked after. Keep hounding your dealership, they can get tech support involved, they can also get their DOM involved. I would suspect you have a fuel leak somewhere on the high pressure side. Do you ever get a light knocking noise, like fuel knock or injector cackle. I have seen lots of dripping injectors that will cause your oil level to increase.

I have an 08 with 40,000 k on it and had the same problem with to much oil. They had to change the high pressure oil pump.

one way to check for a leak is to add some fuel dye, command the rpms to around 1500rpm. command the frpdsrd to around 25000psi and let run for a few minutes. then pull the covers to check for dye..you might have a cracked injector that only leaks at high pressure. but ford does consider slightly overfull oil to be normal due to regen..slight overfull can be a couple of quarts. its a big pan!! sometimes the cracks are so small they are not visible..hope this helps some

I'm having the same problem, three trips to two different dealers. 5% fuel dilution and high aluminum present...Ford says that "it is normal" and yes, I do sometimes have an unusual sound. This 2008 has been in the shop for 21 days in a year, this is getting really old!
