alternator caught fire

I normally hang out on the 6.0 forums but my brother has an 08 F350 that while backing out of the driveway noticed a whine coming from under the hood. After stopping at end of driveway to get mail noticed smoke coming out from under the hood.Long story short his bottom alternator caught fire. Anyone have any similar problems like this?

Whoa... is he running any crazy light setups, stereo system, or any aftermarket electronics for that matter?

Wow mine done the exact same thing today. Oh you are talking about mine older brother. Raptor nothing really extra to load the electrical system. The local dealership service manager is interested to find out what caused this also.

did he have the high amp alternator package or regular one

I don't know what he had. Dealer replaced both alternators and harness and he is back on the road .

I have a 08 f350 as well and my bottom alternator caught fire as well, was there a find on it?
