trailer brake control issues

2008 f350, ive hauled a gooseneck since nov. almost everyday.

last week the contoller started to tell me "trailer disconnected" but the lights still worked and i could hit the manual brake lever and the brakes still worked, even though the picture of the trailer was flashing red.

It does this off and on the entire time i tow my trailer, and even other trailers.

I had this problem and it was actually a broken wire on the trailer. I don't know exactly, but it looks like the trailer brakes are grounded to the trailer frame. The wire had broken. I reconnected it and it fixed the problem.

No sure that is what your problem is, but it might be.
