Temp gauge pegging?????

A friend of mine has an 08 with a 6.4, when the temp gauge gets up to normal position it then immediatly pegs out and the truck goes into limp mode. Has anyone seen this before

Check all the electrical plugs and grounds. Check especially the ECM connections and the like. I worked on a Duramax that did that and it was a corroded pin in the main harness connector on top of the engine. Check the obvious like coolant level and proper circulation.
