Water separator problem

Ive got 6.4 with 98000 on it 3 days ago my water separeter light came on i drain it and get mainly diesel with maybe 3 drops of water will the light keeps coming on but im not get any water out if it just diesel but then today it goes into limp mode but still no water in separater so im figuring bad sensor. First question im about 80 miles from home is it going to hurt it if i drive home tomorrow and its still in limp mode? Second question when i go to replace the sensor will all the fuel in my tank keep running out because when i drain the separater it never stops running? I will take any advice or comments thanks

The sensor is integrated in the fuel pump and I would expect that you will find some growth in there. The fuel is going to continue to drain so long as you have fuel in the upstream lines. Just collect it in a catch can and wait for it to completely drain. It may take a little bit, but much less messy that way than trying to work on it with fuel draining on you. Keep us posted.

I read on here that a guy took his apart (Kept getting the light) and the bottom was full of crud. He posted pics of it apart and it was terrible...
