But on the down side , both front calipers have been replaced and roters turned (one leaking and one disentigrating ??) and the trans has given me a near heart atack more than once doing a herky-jerky like the brakes being stabed. I just hope it frags before 36K

my trans has done the exact same issue several times, and its almost out of warranty. Dealer says that its just the way its loaded heavy and its hunting for gear ???? Whatever, I just hope it last. I bought a 2001 F-350 7.3 Auto yesterday with over 400K on it and its twice the truck the 08 is -- I believe its time for the 08 to see some garage walls for a while!

I'm sure I've forgotten a couple of repairs. It's a strong puller (heaviest pull so far was 6500 lbs, wow) and gets decent mileage. I haven't fixed the same part twice but do fix one after another. I'm getting fed up with replacing/repairing stuff on this truck. I had considered getting a newer one and thought I'd rationalize it by saving money in repairs; doesn't sound like it. Guess I should go back to Chevy. I love the truck, hate the repairs! Just my $.02
I understand your concern. I have a 2000 with 140k on it and I make a lot of repairs also. But come on, your truck is 9 years old with over 200,000. You have to expect to replace running gear parts and batteries. You would do that on any vehicle, gas or diesel, ford or chevy, foreign or domestic.
I would say if you are happy with a chevy than I would go buy one but long before you hit 200k you will be replacing all the same stuff.

Update on the 08. It has been problem free for the last 12k of it's 20k miles. The mpg is a little better since Ford reprogrammed it back this summer. But, only 10.5-11 mpg. That's the only thing bothering us about this truck now. We actually bought another vehicle that gets better fuel mileage to drive when we can get by with it. But, it's a shame to see such an expensive vehicle sitting and not getting used now. Looking forward to a mpg fix and then I will say it's a Great truck.

holy Toledo Batman! 200k plus is lot of miles unless you know exactly how the truck was treated previously. was it run hard? I doubt it was babied. regardless, with that many miles, I am sure you got a good deal on it. repairs and replacing parts with that many miles is completely acceptable in my book. I work my truck very hard (towing) but take even better care of it. "extremely well maintained" describes my truck to the letter. I hope you get that fine 7.3L up and running well soon.

What we have here is a boondogle. The whole reason for going to the 6.4 was to meet emisions standards. This is done in one of two ways. Actualy build an engine that burns the fuel the way it needs to, or find an existing one and turn the pump down until it will meet them. Unfortunately for us they chose to up the size and turn down the fuel, and over charge the intake. No truck needs 2 turbos off the assembly line. It is really not quite that simple, but that is the gist of it. It all boils down to no millage. There is plenty of blame to go around on everyones part. Ours for trying to make a work truck into a country club status symbol. Trucks are not lincolns or cadilacs. The oil company for trying to keep the satus quoe, and not going to bio years ago. Ford for forgeting that the whole reason why we bought F Series trucks is because we expected them to last for 10 to 20 years at a minimum. I am not new to diesel my family bought the first one in 1987. It was a 6.9L Strait F250. It pulled like a tank, it would pull a fully loaded 36' cattle trailer at 70 with out checking, It wasen't designed for racing mustangs. Was rung once at 225K because my brother poped a gasket wraping the pipes. Since, my dad, brother, or I have owned atleast one of every type until the 6.0. We have flat wore out one of each. We all forgot that a diesel wasen't ment go 0 to 60 in 8 seconds or less. They were ment to work/pull/run ,all day long, 365 days a year, and be fuel eficent doing it. It is time for all the people who really dont need these trucks to stop buying them. They make them too expensive for those of us who realy need them to afford. At todays prices i will drive my 97 till the frame breaks then rebuild it before i will pay 45 to 55 Thousand dollars for a new one. But that is my rant. Thanks for reading.

Uhh no not quite. I work in an area full of country clubs and they have a hard enough time parking there caddy's and would never be able to manage any kind of truck.

I see more farmers driving around in fully loaded Lariats and King Ranch's than pool service guys driving around high end Superduty models. If they were so concerned with price why didn't they buy the XL model or even splurge a little go with the FX4 that has a few options of the higher models with out biggest price tag? Fact is higher demand means higher production and lower cost. You can't expect to buy a truck in 97 and it not to go up in 10 years and then blame the people that are buying them that don't pull 20k lbs day in and day out.
