Issue maybe

So I noticed that after I drive my truck, park and then idle there is something that is kicking on and off about every 20-30 seconds. The rpms don't change but the fuel rail pressure changes from 5000 when off and to 5500 when on I'm assuming it's off and on. Also the tone of the idle changes during the off and on. Not sure if it's the EGR valve or what else it could be? I have not installed the EGR delete listed in my sig yet just not enough time. I run the spartan 250EL tune 5" exhaust and S&B intake. No codes come up on the dash daq. Any ideas as to what this could be and if it's a cause for concern? Truck runs great otherwise.

I don't have an EGR and mine doesn't do that. Not saying it is def the EGR, just that I haven't noticed it. I also idle at about 5600 (in pretty sure) but I'm on the 300 tune

Thanks aggie, I called a buddy of mine (owns several 6.4's) and he's confident that it's just the EGR. I'd just never noticed it untill a few days ago and wanted to ask and make sure it wasn't anything else. Can't wait for a day off so I can get this EGR delete put in.

Kris, just did my EGR delete using Sinister's kit. Allow plenty of time and don't get in a hurry. My one tip would be this:

After you take out the battery tray and degas bottle, check the upper bolt that connects the lower EGR cooler to the exhaust. Chances are it is really tight and will round the bolt head off when you try to remove it. Soak it good with PB blaster, soak it again, and soak it again. Let it soak while you do the rest of the EGR removal. When I did mine, I wasted 3 hours getting this one bolt out. In the end I had to take a dremel and grind the head of the bolt off.

Good luck!

The 250 tune allows the valve to cycle at idle. That's what you're noticing.

Could he change to the 310 to confirm it?

^^^^^WHS. If it bothers you, is switch to one of the higher tunes that disables the egr. Personally, if it was me I would want to know on these trucks in case it could be an issue. FWIW my egr is still intact(for the moment) but I run the negr tunes and don't have this

I know Spartan cycles the EGR to try to keep them from building up and sticking....just not sure if the race tunes completely shut if off...hence my question to Jeff.

I believe it is completely shut off on 275 and higher. Maybe Jeff will chime back in if I'm wrong
