going to buy a chip! (help fast)

either today or tomorrow I'm going to buy a chip I
found off craigslist, he lives a hour and a half away and
he's selling the chip cause he totaled his truck it was in. and since the
truck was totaled I don't get the dpf pipe with it, and he
said the tuner is VIN unlocked. hes selling it for $925

so my question is, is it a good or bad idea to buy the tuner?
how do I know if the tuner actually works?
should I be weary about buying it?
I know Spartans you have to pay $250 for the license change
so I'm not sure why he was saying it's vin unlocked (is that even possible)?

if so what info should I get from him for the license change, and how do I know
if the info he gives me is true.

sorry for all the questions but I don't want to waste $925

thank you in advance

So what are you buying? A Spartan Tuner or an H&S?

If you're buying an H&S you are wasting 925 dollars because all you'll have is a paperweight

I seriously doubt he took the trouble to unlock it from the truck if he totaled the truck. You are throwing away hard earned dollars.

All you have to do is plug in the tuner and see if it is unlocked. You don't have to tune it. I wouldn't be worried about it, just don't give him the money until you plug it in and go to the information screen, I cant recall how to get there off of the top of my head. IDK why these guys are telling you to stay away from it?

You are correct there is a $250 relicense fee from Spartan as long as the previous truck has been returned to stock, otherwise it is $599.

I think you need the guys name and number so that Spartan can verify that it was sold to you and not stolen.

So its vin locked that will cost 599 for re licensing like wood boy said plus the cost he's selling it for. You can go get a brand new one in the box for the same price
