Tuner confusion a little help please

So I bought my truck about a month ago and I'm looking to do the deletes. In the next few weeks. Now where I'm having the confusion is with the sct 3015 or 5015. My question is do I need the R version of either to delete or do I just need custom tunes from gearhead or whoever and can load it into a non R version of the either of the sct's and it will delete that way. I looked around for awhile and couldn't find a direct answer.

R version. 3015R or a 9625OR. There isn't an R version of the 5015. There is a competition series that can be offroad tuned by some people but I do not believe IDP nor Gearhead tune on the competition ones. And street ones do not have the availability to be offroad tuned w/ custom tunes

Now next question I have is about rudys tunes on what you called the competition tuner are they any good? Again I searched and couldn't find any info. Just trying to see if it's better for me to try and track down an R version somewhere or go with one of the rudys package deals.

The tunes that come on the competition tuners from Rudy's are tunes by Punch-It Performance if I remember correctly. I have only seen a couple of guys running them since the competition tuners are fairly new and the reviews have been positive.

Well I think I'll browse for a 3015R first and if I don't find one to buy in a few weeks I'll give the competition tuner a shot. I just want to try and give myself the most options for custom tunes. I would go with a mini maxx but that would eat up 75% of my overall budget right away and wouldn't allow me to buy my egr delete and intake

I don't know if you considered it but you could look at Spartan. It's a bit harder to get started with than the mini maxx.. I think(no experience with h&s)... But it is a bit cheaper than the mini maxx if I remember correctly. I went through Rudy's and got the Spartan, 5 inch dp back exhaust, intake, and egr delete for right around 2,500. If that helps you any

I'm a little leery of the spartan, I had a buddy that had one when it first came out for the 6.4 and the trans tune on it destroyed his tranny not sure if that was an early issue or just bad luck. Either way I'm trying to stay in my budget of 1,800 give or take

Well it was for me because I am computer challenged and scared to mess things up. I meant when you receive the tuner and have to set up the sd card. That's probably just me though
22 yrs old I shouldn't have these issues. Sorry for any confusion

Mine has been great so far. Just loaded the 250 tune this morning and shifts are a bit rough but it's to be expected while the trans relearns. From what I have read, there have been big improvements in the Spartan tuning since they originally released 6.4 tuning.... And some guys just have bad luck. I don't feel like the tuning would've tore the trans apart unless it was already on it's last leg before he tuned an made it worse. Or if he loaded up a 300+ tune and just gave er hell which would definitely(I feel like anyway) eventually tear it apart due to the amount of torque bein pushed through it.... Maybe I'm just an idiot. Who know?

His truck was new at the time only about 2k I know he was driving it pretty hard just how he is. I think he was running a 300 tune. It only took about 8k miles and the tranny was done for. What I'm looking for is a tune to improve the mpg and give me a decent boost in performance. I don't tow and 95% of my driving is on the highway.
