Regen process

Probably a stupied question but what is the process like for the regen. I ask because it seems like when ever it regenerates is when I have come to place where i'm going to park, kinda annoying. Shouldn't it be regenerating durring driving? or do i just have bad luck?

I bought my truck in June of '07 and it doesn't tell me when its in regen, the newer trucks do. But mine has blown out gobs of grey smoke twice while driving. The first time was around 8 thousand miles, and it just did it again yesterday, just under 18 thousand. I thought I remembered the manual saying it wasn't supposed to do it during idle or in tow/haul mode. It sure makes people behind me wonder whats going on

The latest flash (I forgot the number) stops the regen while ideling, also supposed to tell you through the computer when it's in regen. Also fixes the resume feature on the cruise control.

The best time for regeneration is while driving down the highway. Less fuel is used and the process takes less time. If you do a lot of city driving the regen will take much longer, because every time you push the brake the regen stops until you're moving again.

Is there a way to display the number of regen cycles the truck has performed?
