Low Pressure Turbo, Wastegate, and EGR Delete Kits
Here are some shots of the first full test kit of our modified low pressure turbocharger, external wastegate kit, and EGR cooler delete setup for the 6.4.
The turbo is comprised of a fully overhauled stock Low Pressure Turbo. The compressor is upgraded to a 71mm billet compressor (from the 64mm stock cast compressor). The turbine housing is ported from head to toe, the turbine wheel is modified to reduce surge and allow more peak flow. The exhaust housing itself has been machined and welded with a fitting and mount plate for the bypass wastegate kit. (Please excuse the somewhat crude fitting in the picture- production pieces will be fully machined and TIG welded). The wastegate we will be using for the kit will be TiAL 38mm units. The wastegate will not be dumping straight to atmosphere; it will bypass the stock high pressure turbocharger (which is very restrictive, and creates tremendous backpressure at high RPM due to lack of flow) and vent into the low pressure turbo. This will maximize both boost and airflow; whereas dumping straight to atmosphere can waste present exhaust energy under certain cirumstances. A HUGE drop in exhaust backpressure and temperature, along with a sizable gain in boost will be seen with wastegate use. The 'revolutionary' part of this system is the wastegate control. The factory electronic controls for the now non-existant exhaust gas recirculation valve are actually used to open and close the control solenoid for the wastegate. This gives us the ability to actually map the wastegate control into the customer's factory ECM, rather than having to rely upon only boost pressure to do the job. Certainly an industry-exclusive there. The proper programming needed will come with the kit for Phalanx Console users. Also included in the kit is everything needed to fully delete the EGR cooling system and reroute the coolant and associated plumbing. The kit will contain the following components- Modified Low Pressure Turbo, with mounting and gasket kit TiAL 38mm external wastegate, fittings, gasket, and exhaust plumbing included Wastegate control solenoid, wiring, and associated plumbing EGR Delete components- coolant reroute tubing and lines, EGBP sensor relocation bracket, tubing, and fitting, and needed block-off plates. Replacement tunes needed for electronic wastegate control (for Phalanx users only) A hefty discount (still to be determined) on the purchase of our new 275RWHP tune. As an option for purchase in the future, a new intake elbow is in the works. This elbow will remove the EGR valve and throttle plate itself, along with a new cold side charge air tube to remove the horrid crimp in the factory unit (at the front core support) and make clearance for future mounting of a dual CP3 injection pump. All the final details of the kit aren't worked out yet (ie, final pricing, delivery date, pre-orders, ect) but will be soon as the final production components are finished. I'll post more information accordingly. Last edited by SpartanDieselTech; 09-03-2008 at 06:38 PM. |
