Benefits to early lock up???

Right now I run Vivian's looney street tune and the torque converter locks up at 52ish. Mph what benefits are there to locking it earlier? Will it be harder on parts or not? Would it help milage at all I get 22-24 highway and about 29 city now so I'm pretty happy with that just wondering
Thanks in advance

anyways, that is a pretty good lockup speed. My IDP tunes will lock up around 45-47mph where my gearhead lock up about 52-54ish. It all depends on what your average speed is. On country backroads around 45mph rolling hills of south Alabama I feel the 45mph lock up lugs the motor a little too much but that is just my interpretation/opinion of it.

Aside from the ludicrous mpg claims ( I know, ive seen the claims from vivian tunes before, I just dont buy it personally) How do you get better mpg in city driving vs highway?

I like the early lock in 4th - it seems to fit with my driving. Most of my driving is in 45MPH zones where I drive 45-52ish. It locks early under light acceleration (which is 99% of my driving) and powers through 4th nicely into fifth. Lots of acceleration in 4th with it locked without much throttle.
