New to me 450, mods???

Just bought a 2008 F450 Lariat 4x4 with 4.88 gears. Want to do some mild performance mods and any increase in mpg would be a bonus but need to stay legal for DOT. Any suggestions? Also any mods I can do to keep warranty. Went thru the 6.0 repairs out of warranty so tryin to stay in warranty this time. Any suggestions would be helpful. It has 55,000 miles and completely stock.
Thanks, Mike

How much do you tow? The best thing I can tell you to do is look into a Gearvendor overdrive. With those 4.88s you aren't going to get any fuel mileage. How many miles are on this truck? The 4.88s cause the rpms to turn so high that water pump cavitation was a concern on F450s. We had a '10 F450, egr delete, 4" exhaust, Spartan, CAI and it had the 4.30s and still we didn't get any fuel mileage.

Not really too concerned with MPG's. Any increase would be nice but really want dependable power. Truck has 55,000 miles. Towing 15k toy hauler and 20k to 25k freight loads.

Ahhh, well I know you say you want to stay DOT legal, so I guess you are referring to not deleting emissions right?

spartan programmer. I think they have tunes up to 150 or so horsepower with the DPF ON. However, I highly reccomend doing the DPF delete. You can gut out the DPF and weld a straight pipe through it to make it stealthy. The 6.4 is nothing with that DPF on.

Friend of mine also has an '08 450 with the 4.88 gears.

Have any of you guys swapped them out for something like 3.55's or 3.73's?

That would defeat the sole purpose of the F450? I believe 4.30s are the perfect gear ratio. Maybe 4.10s if you do a lot of interstate but not the long hills really heavy.

We run the dpf on tunes on the 450 from Spartan for a long time and they did alright.

Things have changed and it's used 95% of the time unloaded, 5% with a trailer.

Basically undriveable at highway speeds (it's not uncommon to run 85mph up here) and it's going to be a HUGE depreciation hit to trade it in just for the sake of getting different gear ratios. 4.88's are just unacceptable unloaded.

That's why I want to know if anyone has purchased lower gears/where/how much?

Thanks.
