I really think you guys are on to something here...now if we can just figure out how to turn the dampening off and the torque management so the truck acts the way it should all the time, we would have trucks the way they were meant to be

Matt posted on the spartan forum that there is not any throttle dampening in the 08's. The lack of response is strictly fueling on stock trucks. On the tuned trucks he said once you reach the level of fueling where the truck smokes then the limit is turbo spoolup.

My BMW has the same set up. Floor it and it slowly takes off, but ask your tech for the secret to disabling the stability control and hang on! I don't know anything about the '08 PSD, but the drive by wire in my 6.OH seems to respond pretty quickly.

I spoke with matt about this and this is what he had to say

Quote:
All of the tunes currently reprogram the throttle response characteristics as they are.

The hotter the tune, the more torque management (and correspondingly throttle response) is modified.

I read the thread over at powerstroke.org, and I do want to dispel a couple things about this.

First off, there is no such thing as "throttle response dampening". The lack of pedal feel you get stock is because of lack of fueling. Period. The throttle simply requests for torque, which correspondingly requests for fuel...all other parameters follow.

When you've reached the point where there is significant smoke taking off, that is really "all she wrote" as far as throttle response. Timing tweaks, changes to the VGT, and other minor things can be done to increase the response more, but once you have reached the "smoke" threshold, the throttle is no longer what you are feeling hold the truck back.

The 250 tune has NO torque management whatsoever. It is all disabled. Any lack of response felt with the 250 tune is simply the turbos reaching boost threshold.

Well Im sorry, I completely disagree. My 02 did not have the same pedal feel as my 08 does. I've driven many of these trucks, even mid 90's models and they do not have the same pedal feel at all. If you accidentally blipped the throttle at 20 mph coasting you could damn near bounce your head off the cab roof. This used to happen to me quite a bit when going over really weird bumps that made you bounce around in the cab and hit the throttle. The 08 doesnt do that at all.

I can be turning at a traffic light, floorboard it and it wont even react for about 2-3 seconds. I understand turbo lag and I know what that is and feels like, this isnt turbo lag or fuel lag. On my 08 once you are moving along at about 25mph let it coast and then go 1/2 throttle and it will be about 2 seconds or so before it throttles up.. if I let up during that 2 second wait and go full throttle it does the same thing - 2 sec lag. But if I then lightly tap the brake, just enough to turn on the brake lights and then the go full throttle it takes off instantly and roasts the tires from coasting along at 25mph or so.

Another test I tried is taking off from a dead stop. If you release the brake and call for full throttle there is a good bit of lag before it finally takes off. Likewise, If i barely tap the brake just to turn the brake lights on but not enough to hold the wheels, there is zero lag and it roasts the tires from a dead stop. No Im not power braking it.

Maybe the torque management is different on mine due to an earlier build.. I dunno.. but I do know that there is definitely some throttle management going on behind the scenes, and it sucks.

I have to agree with you, and I think you'll see the "tuners" finding out that you are right someday too.
The process that you posted made an instant change in my truck. Maybe it was so noticeable because I drive like an old man, but there was definitely a difference in throttle response.

so the spartan tuner with dpf delete will "take care" of this problem?
