Opinions on transmission upgrade

Ok, so first off, I'm not a transmission guy, so be gentle. I would like to "beef up" my tranny. I'm running a CAI and H&S Mini is all. I'd like to be able to run the hot damn tune without worrying about loosing the tranny. I don't need a full built race setup, just something to hold what I've got pretty easy. I have no intention of doing any more performance mods. I'm worried about mine right now. From time to time it will hang up in third an slam into first, after normal driving. Sometimes I have to go to reverse to get it out of third. What upgrades would y'all recommend? Keep in mind I don't have an unlimited supply of funds.

An elite tranny you can look into but you may be having solenoid or tuning issues

Elite, Twisted, Warren. A converter upgrade may just do you some good but yeah look into your solenoid hang up first.

I have a few more mods then you, still on stock tranny, the torque shifts can handle quite a bit, sounds like a solenoid.. Im replacing my 3-5 solenoid on Monday. And ill be beefing up my tranny in the spring... I'm going to replace the internals myself for about $4,000 and will support 750hp to rear tires

Ok, so educate me on this solenoid. Where is it? How to check it or just change it? Is it something I can do myself? I do have a mechanic background, just not on transmissions, lol.

If you change out your DD solenoid with a modified one might help. I just changed out mine and it made a big difference with the 3 to 5 shifts but I also have traction bars witch helped alot with the shifting. The solenoid also stop my truck from having shift flares in the 3 to 5 rang. Here is a link to PTP and there solenoid and they have great intructions and pics on it.

I read that it also helps with reverse. Are they referring to the random hard shifts into reverse?

I personally never had problems with reverse and didn't notice the difference after installing the new solenoid. But my truck only has 34,000 miles on it and I don't beat on it or had any trans problems besides a shift flare now and then prior to the new solenoid.
