Spartan 310 daily driving

Hey guys and gals,

My truck is an 09, it has stock exhaust with a gutted cat, dpf delete, spartan tuner, and thats it right now.

I have a friend that has a similar truck and he has his spartan on the 310 tune for daily driving, said he likes it best, gets great power, about the best economy, blah blah blah.

So I tried it, and I love it, except for one thing. If I tend to hit the pedal a little rough, it puffs black. On the highway when passing hard it can shoot out a fair bit of black. Im not one of those guys that wears white sunglasses and a tapout t-shirt that thinks this is "cool" and quite frankly dont want to be a douchebag to others, so what gives?

Is this normal? Should I maybe try a different tune instead? I sure do love the way the truck feels, and it seems to do abit better on fuel then when i was running the 210 tow tune.

Thoughts?

It's a 310 HP race tune. It's going to smoke a decent amount until the chargers are making lots of boost.

Thanks for the replies fellas.

I know sometimes some questions may seem stupid to some of you, but this is the first time I have really played a whole lot with higher performance in a diesel.

I just hate accidently smoking someone out when I get on the pedal a tad too much. I sure dont mean to.

Then use a smaller tune file like 250 or 275 if you are worried about it or watch the way you use your right foot.

Yeah I was pondering trying a smaller tune. Now that ive been using that tune for awhile I sure like it though. The power is nice and damn near instant, the truck feels like a beast, and it seems to get better mileage. The smoke woulda been cool when i was 16, but now ... haha.

No other options really other then switching tunes, and watching the right foot? (which I tend to do anyways)

I know black smoke is unburnt fuel, I was thinking maybe if I threw on that intake, it might help...? But I think I got the answer to that above, the main thing is I need to wait for the turbos to spool.

No other option as there is not custom tune options for the Spartan.

Try the 300hp tune. The 310 and 350 have a really fast ramp rate at low throttle making the throttle very touchy. The 300 is more mild mannered and moves the fast ramp rate towards middle throttle.
