Spoke with my local service manager this morning on this very issue. He says that yes, they can tell if a module, chip or programmer have been used regardless of what you do. He is in full support of the the DPF delete option. As he sees it, it is better customer service to educate his customers on how to get the most power and fuel economy from their 50K+ trucks. He believes that since you pay that much for the truck, you shouldn't have to spend that much on fuel as well. He is actually going to be a dealer for Spartan. That shows how much he supports the idea. He said as long as no one trys to hide the fact that they have electronically modified their truck, he will NOT void any waranty. So you are better off to find a dealer like mine that is in full support, and spend the few extra dollars on the DPF delete, and save way more in the long run. Oh yeah, if the DPF clogs/stops up, with no signs of cracking, or any other manufacturer defects, it is NOT covered.

I can't give his name out guys. What do you think FoMoCo would do if they found out?? I can tell you that his word is GOLD. How do I know this? He is a close personal friend of mine and has been a very long time. He in fact, can provide warranty with Ford's approval, all he has to do is ignore any mods he wants. He would be the one to report modifications to Ford and they would be the ones to deny warranty work at that point. I am sorry for some of the guys on here that just don't have that kind of service in their area.

You can actually marry that Dude in California, but it won't help you in the event of a real problem. Yeah, he can get authorization over the phone to warranty just about anything except the real costly repairs. If you have a blown engine or tranny, Ford will always send out the area field rep to examine the claim. He's the guy with the downloader in his hand... Your "bud" then starts taking orders from him, and they are not open to debate.... Usually it's the people who think they have it all figured out that get jammed the hardest. I say go for it! |

Oh, believe me, I am going to go for it, not the marrying part of course. The dealership also has the capability to check for mods as well. But my Service Manager will take as good of care of me as possible. My father-in-law has an 03 with 132,000 miles, and still gets his taken care of. Too many issues with his 6.0

I know someone who bought a truck with tuner installed by the dealer. The warranty is by the dealer and not FMC. This was acknowledged up front. I believe the warranty issue is BS anyway. Leave it stock or be prepared to pay, period. The truck is setup for the acceptable risk factor of failure. Exceed that and it's yours. Nobody installs a chip because they want to feel better about it. It is for more power. If you want to remove the DPF that's your baby. It is illegal or they would not put it on there to start with. Your economy is not going to improve without removing the DPF. You will spend the money saved on fuel to replace or clean the DPF. Basically leave it stock or forget the warranty. If a repair is covered that's great. People have been towing and will continue to tow with less power than the stock truck has. You can tow with the truck as it comes from the factory without any problem. |

No one asked for a name, just a city/state. Maybe someone on here needs a good mech and is in a pinch. Im pretty sure FMC can't pin the guy on the city/state. |

I don't see saving money without removing the DPF though. Is the mpg increase guaranteed?
Well, let's say the transmission shifting funny causes a failure in the tranny. Should that be covered by the FMC warranty? Last edited by DavidPhillips : 05-16-2008 at 02:20 PM. |
