well what about that guy thats getting over 17 with the DPF still on??? didn't I just read that somewhere on here? OH and I know i aint got a 6.4 but my edge has been FINE for what i want. I burned out my first tranny cuz i was driving around everywhere like a madman and towing on high settings. with my new tranny and driving "normal" my truck shifts fine and has the power i want, if someday i want more i may change, but I think the edge would be JUST FINE for what this guy said he wants it for. if the truck on here was bucking, and he did the install himself, it was probably a bad connection. i heard that somewhere else before too... not just w/edge, but other tuners not getting a good connection doing that. and dont use this guys thread for an edge bashing party. he came on here telling everyone he just modded his truck and look what you did.....anyway, congrats on the purchase!

It's not an Edge bashing "party"
This is all great information for the person willing to learn from others experiences and mistakes. If you are not going to listen, then enjoy your Edge tuner.
Oh, that guy who is getting 17 mpg?
He's probably getting ready to buy a new DPF, but he just doesn't know it yet.

To understand regens, you have to understand that there are 2, as in two different kinds.
Active, which you are considering as noticable regeneration.
Then there is passive, or unnoticable regeneration.

Passive regeneration is when soot is burned off under high heat passively generated by the engine without the aid of the ECM.
Since you are running a tuner, your EGT gasses are now much higher than they were when stock.
So, while you are traveling down the road, and there are no signs of an active regen, rest assured that the extra soot you are producing is being burned off passively.
In the end, the results that we have warned about will still come to fruition.
While you may think there have been no more noticable regens, your DPF is filling up.

In a few thousand miles, suddenly, your rig will start to run slower and your fuel consumption will rise. Your fix will involve a new, $2,500.00 DPF. Then the cycle begins all over again.
It's just the plain old truth, do with it whatever you want.

I really can't beleive that a guy w/ a lift and tires could really be to worried about fuel mileage to much, so if he doesn't want to get the very best tuner out there for his truck then that is his decesion. Edge's can be harder on a truck then they are safe. It all depends how you set them up. I am not a fan of big defuels at WoT on my trans. I had a Edge for two month's and sold it on Ebay for half the money. It seems to me that they got the timing so jacked up that the truck seems to be running on crack instead of diesel fuel. But as far as the dpf delete goes, if you have enough money to have two powerstrokes one for you and your wife, and also can lift them and all the other goodies. Then I think you could afford the dpf delete pipe. then the money you saved in fuel milege, you could pay a shade tree mechanic to put the dpf on before you took it in for a warranty claim

I would venture to say that in the event of a serious problem they are going to have a peak inside the intake. Warranty void .

You know you can set it up not to defuel during shifts... besides like Kyle said.. if you drive the truck like it hasn't been stolen the tranny will learn the new shift points. My truck is shifting fine and as of right know i like the Edge. And who knows down the line the may come out with a up grade DPF delete. If not I can always chip it with a DPF delete and keep the Edge.

I see it as a legitimate legality issue.

It's illegal to disable the DPF exhaust and keep it on the road. It is not as much of an issue with simply adding modified shift points or improving efficiency.

The question still remains "Does it work". If the results are going to be short lived before major DPF issues ensue then there is no point in doing it.

If however there was a complete system to replace the DPF with a larger one that actually works good and does not restrict the exhaust. Maybe a much larger one that gets regenerated by an external source other than by the engine and with it's own controller, disabling the engine regen all together. This would solve the regen problem with the 6.4L and remain street legal.
