CAI and CELs

I was at a local part shop yesterday, picked up my first round of goodies for the new (to me) ride. Mini Max, DPF delete and EGR plates. I was asking about a CAI and the guy told me to be careful with them. Said folks start throwing codes when installed.

Looking for some feed back on which ones seem to work well and which ones throw codes - or is it not really worh the cash any way. I'm not necessairly looking for HP gains, just better breathing...

No codes with my no limit cai.

Would be nice to have a parts store like that close that you could buy aftermarket part at.

A lot of times a CAI intake will throw a CEL, but this is only on a completely stock truck. If it has a programmer, which you will have you can run whatever intake you want with no problems. Sounds like your local parts shop doesn't have a whole lot of experience.

And btw, the stock intakes on these trucks aren't that great as far as flowing air, I would step up to a CAI. S&B, AFE, or No Limit. The NL may be a little overkill if you aren't going to be running for power

Mine threw codes but its because the one I bought has too much oil from factory.. Mass flow sensor cleaner and all was good..

stock truck the early afe intakes were throwing codes due to the truck realizing there was too much air flow. the new style afe intakes have the MAF sensor angled so it wont throw the code anymore. but like mentioned above being tuned it wont throw a code.
