well the truck turned 10,000 miles and I thought it was a good time to service the tranny ! It turned out that it was a real better idea than I figured ! It just so happens that either I got a B@stard truck or Ford is really dumb ??
On my 2006 6.0L there is a filter in the pan and on on the cooler line from the factory. The filter that is on the cooler line is the most important b/c it filters all junk before it hits the drive solenoid which craps out and causes tranny failure due to burnt clutch particles. On my 2008 there is no inline tranny filter only on in the pan which doesn't catch clutch breakdown so the solenoid is on borrowed time. I just replaced the tranny in my 06 with every upgrade suncoast offers @ 50k miles and I don't drive it hard and the final cost was $5300 not cheap. So my tranny builder did some research and talked to suncoast and their external tranny filter main purpose is to catch clutch particles so thats what went on the 06 and the 08. I also installed Suncoast exclusive Drive solenoid which causes the clucthes to lock up tigher which prevents wear and improves performance its like a shift kit. When tuners increase the line pressure in the tranny tuning they are basically forcing the factory solenoid to increase line pressure. the Upgraded solenoid is way better on the tranny ! I also installed a mag-hytec tranny pan which will work on the 08 all you have to do is buy the 2006 5r110 tranny filter for the internal filter and no problems. they don't make a specific pan for the 08's yet due to the clearance issue with the larger in pan filter. the tranny takes 18 quarts on mercron sp for a full service with these mods. You cannot use any other tranny fluid b/c the factory clutches can only use the sp. here's the list with prices trans filter 21.00 Suncoast Aux filter 215.00 Solenoid upgrade 155.00 Mag-Hytec pan 345.00 total 951.20 Pics ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

a little driving feedback The truck shifts awesome it took the truck a little learning like less than 20 miles. Part throttle driving the shifts are nice and tight firm but not harsh. A wot the truck shifts firm for the 1-2 and softer for the 2-3 but when it locks in forth hold on the truck fricken takes off its crazy it pulls super hard the shift is firm. The truck feels tighter over all feels like the tranny is more soild. I've had shift kits in 5 trucks it feel the same as all of them really nice to drive. Its a cheap thrill !!!! |

I can't count how many people have told me that the 5R110 doesn't have an external filter because they can't see one mounted on the tranny. I'm more or less replying just to subscribe to this thread. I'm interested in this missing external filter.
