Thinking of Getting a 6.4 powerstroke...

So im thinking of getting a 6.4 powerstroke and naturally as a good republican would do, i want to rip off all the emissions crap that holds back my engine. i want to do an egr delete first and foremost. The truck im getting is an auto. What kind of chips do i need to get in order to get the most power/mpg out of my truck without blowing my stock tranny. ill be using this truck for a farm truck/everday driver.

Sounds like a good decision! Read the stickie in the general section as that answers alot of questions as to where to start as far as basic and popular mods go for these trucks. Just about all your answers will be there. Come back and post any questions that can't be answers by reading the stickie. Oh, we have democrats and republicans who are both deleted... Welcome and good luck!

Well there's a few to go with: h&s mini maxx (hard to find an off road race tuner which is capable of delete tuning, the street tuner doesn't have delete tunes) then you have the spartan tuner, and sct, and then you have the dpf-r (which is more like a device that only turns off the dpf but is available with a 70hp tune. It's all in that stickie.

I like h&s because if you tow alot you can change to a Lower hp tune with the touch of a button in a second, the spartan you have to sit there and reload another tune which takes 30-45 mins (I've heard not sure on exact time).

sounds like i wont be getting an h and s then. my cousin has a 06 cummins that is ridiculous and tuning it is so easy. im confused about "stacking" of chips. i would like to tune this truck but dont want to have to change out the transmissions or driveline.

It's all Bout maintenance and how you drive it. You can find mini maxx's still, just gotta lay 1200-1600 out in cash. Go spartan or sct. I haven't had any tranny issues with mine and I run the hottest tune on my mini maxx

Not all are big, you don't even need to keep them plugged in. But they're also digital gauges to monitor important parts of the truck, oil temp and coolant temp- you know if the difference in temperature of the oil temp is greater than 10-15 degrees of the coolant temp- that your oil cooler is clogged and going to need replaced or you have an oil cooler problem and can fix the problem before it causes havoc. And you can watch tranny temp, and egt temp (exhaust gas temperature).

That's the plus side to having a monitor so you can watch the engine and keep an eye on important pid's.
