Need input on 5" Exhaust

Looking at Flo Pro Stainless 5" downpipe back exhaust. Question is Muffler or no muffler. How much sound does the muffler take away? I'm not looking to be all crazy loud as I live in a residential neighbor hood and would also be towing my toy hauler into camp grounds late night. For you guys that have experiance with Muffler on and off would really like to hear from you. thanks!

I guess I can't comment directly on your question, but I'm curious what people say.

I have a Flo Pro 4" turbo back exhaust on my truck, and while it's not crazy loud, I'm not a fan of the turbine sound, especially while I'm driving. I can't hear it in the cab except when I'm driving down a road lined with buildings, then it's very apparent how loud that sound is. A friend of mine says it sounds like an F-16 driving down main street when I drive by.

I'm probably going to change mine out for a 5", and put an FTE 30" resonator/muffler on it. My goal isn't really to make it quieter, it's to minimize the turbine sound. I'm hoping the 5" will give me a little deeper sound, and the resonator/muffler will keep the turbine sound down without killing all the deep sound of the engine.

Also, my 4" is stainless, I'll probably get aluminized for my next one. The stainless lasts longer, but the aluminized doesn't rust like the stainless does and stays bright. Or so I've been told. My stainless pipe has lots of rust spots on it, and it's only about 6 months old.

Without muffler.....there is no noticeable sounds difference between a 4" and 5"

With muffler......really doesn't muffle much, which is why most don't run it

Ditto....what he said

Go with the 5" straight pipe. The 6.4 is not as load as other diesels when straight piped, because the twin turbo set-up acts like a muffler. I wish there was away to get more noise out of it...LOL.

Oh there is......., its called a single, but you really lose the "daily/towing" driving aspect of the truck

Thanks guys, just ordered the 5" SS Flo Pro, straight pipe. And an S&B CAI. This mini maxx sitting on the counter is getting hard to not put in the truck.

I'm sure you'll like it. There's a huge difference in performance.

You can install the Mini Maxx in your truck and program it to a DPF on tune until you get your new pipe in. In fact, you probably should do that. H&S recommends installing it on the vehicle when it's still in stock form, then doing your deletes and reinstalling it.

I have the 5 inch flo pro from the down pipe back. It is not too loud unless your stomping on the skinny pedal. In a tight area with tall buildings it is very noticeable. Not sure how helpful the muffler will be. I am guessing as long as you are easy on it near the houses, you will be fine.
