Question Cold air intake ?

I have a 08 F250. I bought it used and it came with a K&N intake. I have been considering putting a AFE or S&B on it. My local dealer is telling me that I need to return to the stock ford setup. He says the K&N is letting dirt into my engine. It is very dusty where I live. Any ideas? The dealer also told me that if I did not turn my H&S tuner down to the "no power" level, I would destroy the exhaust manifold gasket. Opinions please

From what I have read, K&N filters are awful esp being in a dusty climate, they let more dirt in then air. I'd use either oem filter or AFE PG7 filter. As for the exhaust manifold gaskets thats a first I've heard of that, you sure he didn't say head gaskets? Head gaskets will eventually go south on higher tunes unless you stud the motor.

H&S, 5" Flo pro, PMF 2" coil spacers w/ plow coils, radius drop brackets, 4.5" blocks, adj track bar, Bilstein 5100, ATX Ledge 18x9 wrapped in 325/65/18 Duratracs

They definitely said exhaust manifold gasket, no mention of the head gasket. I'm running the "mild" selection on the tuner. Just trying to get better mpg. If I go back to stock with the air intake, won't I lose power and mpg?

Generally the higher tunes you get better fuel mileage, but as for air filter i believe the stock is good for 500hp. Would you rather have a filter that filters good or better performance? The PG7 filters the best out of the 3 from afe.

Cold air intake ?

Get either an S&B or an AFE if you want to run high tunes, otherwise stay stock filter. As far as damage, you have to pay to play, but as long as you are sensible you won't break anything.

The performance from the factory is fine with me. I bought a diesel for the longevity. I want the best protection for my truck that I can afford. Better fuel mileage is a close second. I bought the H&S tuner and did the dpf/doc delete because of reading the problems the regeneration cycle was causing the engines. I thought the factory air filter did not do a good job of protecting the engine. Have I been misled?

Yup, that is the BD set-up....I'm running their scoop with my S&B set-up....I moddified the air dam in my fender to make this work (I did not use theirs)....I posted some pictures and instructions about a year ago. Bottom line is, the power stayed the same, but my EGT's dropped a legit 30+ degrees when I hammer on it.
