H&S mini maxx prob, truck is down

Here is what I have; 2008 F-250, full delete 5" flo-pro, H&S mini maxx, EGR delete, S&B cai, truck has 53K miles, this setup has about 750 miles on it...

Here is what happened. While driving home, my traction control light comes on the gauge cluster and trans starts shifting funny, engine is running odd, blowing lots of smoke and I think the fan clutch was locked up. I think the tans would only go into 3rd. (I was very close to home no big deal). I get in the driveway and cut it off. Now it wont restart and the mini maxx will not initialize with the truck. All connections are fine.

the "red lock" indicator comes on when I turn the key on. mini maxx will not "initialize"

It is like I am completely locked out, any suggestions????


I found something here on the org, I guy claims same problem and new power cord to the mini maxx fixed it. Any others have something like this happen??

went back and checked all connections for a 4th time and everything is OK...


problem must have been operator difficulty...

yeah... i guess i missed a loose connection or something... it is alive and as bad as ever.

Hmmmm.....well hopefully it was. Another thing you may consider is checking the batteries. I hear these trucks act weird if the batteries are going out.

Egr delete? Only run the HD tunes.. only those support it, which is something i recently learned..

There is a limp mode and timed lock out function when the egr is not reporting to the pcm.. it stands to reason, and something I've worried over, that the limp mode falls back to a script the mini maxx hasn't addressed, and as such, it looks for the egr sensor when in that limp mode.. hence, you went into limp for a problem, and while in that limp mode, any changes the mini maxx made to the tables/script are disregarded... The pcm recognizing that particular sensor missing will cause you to be locked out from running for (i think it's) four hours..

It could also cut you off while driving, too..

Read the sticky on top of the problems board to find out how to defeat it in a pinch..

I'm not saying this with certainty that it's what you're dealing with, but it certainly could be.. how long between attempts to start did you wait?

Same thing happened to me. First it happened out of no where. Then happen twice in one week then it totally locked me out. My mini maxx wouldn't connect, ford IDS computer wouldn't connect. I was seeing a u0073 code for the can/bus system. It's the connection between all the computers and modules that the truck communicates with. When it sees a short it shuts everything down connected to the can/bus to protect it self. Mine ended up being the brake control module had a short but was fixed under warranty. Mine was doing the same thing, wouldn't shift, vgt turbo turned off and lots of smoke. Etc. i will post my original thread when I get home

What version of software and firmware are you guys running on your Minis?

I keep mine up to date and when mine fully locked me out it was mid November. Didn't get it back from the dealer for over 2.5 weeks

Yup.. mine is up to date, too...
