IDP Extreme Street vs KEM 345 tune for the 6.4L
I just had my 2008 F-450 upgraded by Rudy's with the intake/delete/tune, and I was very happy to say the least. I had owned an F-350 before with the KEM 345 tune and was happy with that as well (FYI, both trucks are dually's), but wanted to compare which tune was better. I wanted the KEM tune on my F-450, but Rudy's recommended the IDP Extreme Street (plus the IDP tune was $100 less...which really helped!). I found a seller on the forums with an SCT with the KEM tune, so I bought it and compared the two. The KEM is a smoother shifting tune, but overall I prefer the IDP hands down. The IDP had more power...noticeably to me. The IDP also had less smoke. I can drive the IDP tune sanely, and the truck won't smoke at all. Not so with the KEM. Even cruising there is some smoke that you notice in the mirror. You floor the gas, and you can turn day into night! The IDP does shift harder, but I actually missed that after driving the KEM! Maybe since my truck is so heavy, the jerk is not so hard, but the KEM almost seemed to shift flimsy. I know some folks will prefer that, but I can see how that can affect transmission life.
In summary, I prefer the IDP Extreme Street over the KEM 345. I have seen posts where they preferred the KEM over IDP, but thats not my experience. I may try a gearhead tune here soon, so check back for updates.
