Now that the XRT Pro racers are high dollar, Spartan VS H&S Xrt Pro

I find it odd that people are buying these H&S XRT Pro race tuners for $1600 or even $2000 when they were originally $600-700 and these people are not buying the Spartan tuners for $1200 (still can do DPF and EGR deletes). Do people really like the $700 H&S SRT Pro that much more than the Spartan? Trying to decide which one to buy.

Same question has been running through my head since I got my 6.4 and started looking at tuners.

Yep, gotta wonder! I know neither can change tunes of the fly, but the XRT can change power levels on the fly. The XRT doesn't have gauges though.

What part of Oklahoma are you in?

If I were shopping for a tuner right now, I would go with Spartan. A lot of guys have had great luck with Spartans tunes, plus, with the current atmosphere around tuners and the prices of H&S skyrocketing, Spartan is a no brainer to me. You get good tuning (both engine and trans) and a gauge display. You lose the shift-on-the-fly ability but honestly, shift on the fly isn't that great on the transmission (In my opinion)

This is no way a dig against H&S (I wanted a mini maxx for my 6.4 when I got it) but that was mainly due to the price at the time. I ended up finding a GREAT price on an off-road capable SCT Livewire so I went that route.

Another reason I think people (on the overall large scale of the diesel world, not just here on the ORG) is lack of knowledge. I know several diesel guys, including one 6.4 owner, who had no idea what/who Spartan was. Possibly because H&S was a more 'well-known" company from a public visibility advertising perspective.

I heard great things about Spartan long before I heard of H&S. I would go Spartan any day.

Go with Spartan. Great product & customer support. I've been a loyal customer for 6 years with no regrets.

The myth about H&S shift-on-the-fly being bad for the 6.4L is simply that. A myth. The H&S tunes don't change the transmission settings every time you change the power level.

And you can keep the on the fly functionality if you go with MCC tuning through Gearhead.
