towing with tune?
I've been running either the 275 or the 310 tune, but I tow my boat about every sunday, it weighs about 7500 loaded with dive gear... I only tow about 15-20 miles intown round trip... would it be bad to leave the 275 or 310, just baby it and watch the egt's? or should I switch to the 210 tow? and if I switch back and forth, does the tranny need to relearn with each time I switch tune, or does it remember everything it have already learned. I dont mind switching tunes, just dont want to have to do a relearn so often. BTW, if it matters its an 08 350 job 3 dually CC with 410's, stock tires..
Thanks Mike B |

Re: towing with tune?
If you blow your head gaskets are you going to be upset?

You shouldn't have any problems towing with the 275 or 310 for such short distances as long as your not on the Go Pedal.
I'd rather drive cautiously for the short time/distance that you'll be towing than submit my truck to a Transmission Learn every week. |

towing with tune?
Just don't do the relearn it'll learn on its own over time. I haven't done the relearn once an the truck shifts very nice just a little rough for the first few miles.

If it were me, for no more than you are towing (distance wise) I would feel fairly safe towing that with the 275 and watching the EGTs and being very cautious to avoid hard starts and running hard (this includes when passing, if you do). However, what I do when I know I am going to be towing a lot of weight or frequently, I just run the tow tune in my truck. I also run the tow tune in the winter as the power is more managable in the slick stuff.

Then why risk it. Drop the tune down to a lower tune.

I just got back from a 600km highway trip towing roughly 13,000lbs behind me with my 08 6.4L CCSB. I'm deleted and tuned with an AFE stage 2 intake. With the no power setting on my XRT I was still seeing near 1300* pulling some hills. Can only imagine what it would have been if I was on one of the higher settings.

At what point should you go to the 210 Tow tune? I am running the 210 EL and will be pulling a tandem axle 16' trailer with a Polaris Ranger 800XP (1300lbs). I don't think this should be a problem but just asking. Its about a 3 hour trip. Just watch gauges I guess.
Is there a certain weight that it would make sense to switch to the tow tune? Thanks. |
