6637 Filter Restriction Sensor... Necessary? PVC? Something else?

Hey guys, my 6637 filter shows up tomorrow and I couldn't be more stoked to put it on. 3 questions:

1.) How absolutely necessary is the filter restriction sensor? Welcome to guzzle's 6637 Filter Restriction Sensor Web Page

2.) I was planning on slipping a piece of PVC between the filter and the housing and clamping it. I shouldn't have any heat problems should I? It's been a lot harder than I thought trying to convince muffler shops to just give me scrap exhaust pipe.

3.) Anything I'm missing? Is there another air-flow sensor or some shenanigans I'm missing?

Just let the sensor dangle. Zip tie it out of the way somewhere.
